Delivering digital know-how in Ladysmith, BC

During two intensive days in November 2019, 42 participants came together in Ladysmith, BC for digital learning and conversation. About half of the participants attended all four workshops. The rest selected those they felt were most relevant to them. Attendance per workshop was:

  • 31 – Assessment
  • 37 – Building a new website for web 3.0 (semantic web)
  • 27 – Email marketing
  • 32 – Social Media Networks

We worked together to understand how to confidently take digital action that is meaningful in their specific context. Context means location (primarily rural) as well as artistic practice and organizational needs.

From those working in Arts Councils to practicing artists, everyone contributed their knowledge as well as challenges to a rich discussion.

Here are the four workshop modules we presented as well as working sheets/handouts.

95% of participants said that they are more confident to take action in the digital world as a result of the workshops. And 95% recommend them to artists and arts administrators.

“I found the presentation and handouts very helpful.”

” I liked how you set us up to know what to look for, rather than going into specific skills, because it gave me the confidence to investigate the specifics on my own.”

“Great workshop. Very relaxed and professional information sharing

Recommendations for additions or changes: There were requests to work through step-by-step instructions, in particular how to set up a Facebook business page, create social ads, setting up a WordPress (or similar)  website, and writing for the various media. This information will be added in the next few weeks to this website in the Tutorials section, and we will incorporate these recommendations into future workshops through small group working sessions.
